Klamath County is often on a bird hunter’s “places to hunt before I die” list. Located in the heart of the Pacific Flyway where it’s common for millions of ducks, geese and swans to migrate through every year. Our many wetlands, grasslands, and refuges provide ample habitat for these birds. Hunting season typically runs from early October through late January for ducks and geese Klamath County is home to 17 different duck species, 4 goose species, mountain and valley quail, pheasant, chuckar, and turkeys. The water-fowling experience combines silence and calmness, adrenaline rushing, varying weather conditions and beautiful scenery. It’s infectious – you’ll want to share it with your family and friends.

For the game hunter who enjoys bow, firearm or muzzle-loader hunting black-tailed and mule deer, Rocky Mountain elk, antelope, cougars, bear, bobcats, coyotes are in good numbers in Klamath County. Your big game pursuits may take you after into the densely wooded areas of the Cascade Mountain Range, or searching in the high desert sagebrush with juniper and pine trees all around. Rocky Mountain Elk are also found in good numbers.

Southern Oregon has more black bears than any other of the lower 48 states. Steep terrain, dense cover and overly abundant food sources provide excellent black bear habitat! Take note though – hunting bears with dogs is prohibited. The Keno Unit, western portion of Sprague Unit, and Gearhart Mountain are good places to hunt. Other popular species include cougar, turkey, coyotes, bobcats and antelope.
